Current phase and diversions
The works in North Waaslandhaven are currently in the first phase, the construction of the new bridge. In addition, the second phase has already started. During this phase, earthworks are carried out within the current roundabout and for the new lanes on Ploegweg and Oudedijk.
This phase includes a study phase, the setting up of the construction site, and the actual construction of the new bridge. The bridge is designed so that the girders are made in one span so that there is no need for a central pillar. This means that disruption on the R2 is limited as much as possible.
In the second phase, earthworks will begin within the current roundabout and for the construction of the new lanes on Ploegweg and Oudedijk.
This phase starts in March 2017 and will last until January 2018. The study phase and the preparatory work are now complete and the bridge is currently being constructed.
Meanwhile, the second phase has also started and this phase is scheduled for completion in January 2018
- Lanes on the R2 are narrowed in both directions while the bridge is being constructed (minimum width per lane is 3 metres). There is no impact on the roundabout or other roads.
- During this phase, the R2 will be closed completely from Saturday 14th October at 5:30 a.m. until Sunday 15th October at 8:30 p.m. – traffic will be routed via the access and exit roads.
